I just received a letter from HRMC telling me I am now on a D0 tax code (from April 13 apparently) and will be taxed at 40% on everything.
A quick google tells me this is meant to be for people with second jobs as they assume the first one uses up the limit
I only have one job - a regular PAYE one - nothing else.
Only difference is I've had to register for self assessment this year due to the child benefit changes.
Is this a !!!! up by HMRC or does this child benefit nonsense mean I will have to pay 40% on everything and then claim it back each year??
Any help appreciated as I'm totally confused and of course the HMRC website is useless and I'm dammed if I'm paying £40 a minute or whatever the 0845 number costs to phone them.....
Thanks in advance for any help.
