Hi there folks.
In January 2013 I received a tax refund from my former employer for the amount of £1191.40. Just over a year ago.
Last week I received a letter from HMRC stating that I've underpaid by £1126 and are demanding I pay the amount immediately.
I get my wages via BACS and I was on PAYE tax which is calculated by my employer. If they've made a mistake, why is that my fault? When I got the tax refund, I rang my employer to make sure it was correct, and they said it was!
The problem I've got is I no longer work for that company, and I'm now a full-time student earning no money at all, and I can't afford to pay this back!
Not only that, HMRC have put me on Self-Assessment and are demanding I fill in a tax return form. I have NO idea what I'm doing and I'm really REALLY concerned.
What do I do? :(
