I hope someone can shed some light on this as I have been on hold with HMRC for about 7 hours over three separate days.
I was working as a volunteer overseas for a few years I returned to England in December and started working.
My tax code was 810L NONCU I have been paying between £400-600/month in tax which seemed like a lot.
Now the NONCU has vanished and my tax code is 944L.
I thought the tax code meant you could earn that much in a year before paying tax so I'm confused if I only just returned to the UK shouldn't I have been able to earn £8100 before I needed to pay tax?
